The Principles of Sharing From the Heart
1. To good people who pursue the truth, you should share from your heart and say what is in your heart, open to them your true states and difficulties, and obtain their help;
2. Treat others with sincerity and get along with them with a loving heart, speak in accordance with the truth and with facts, and be helpful and edifying for others. Never harbor suspicions about others or attack others;
3. Understand the other person’s weaknesses and difficulties, be able to stand in a position of neutrality and use your own practical experiences to help others, so that they may not be restrained;
4. Speak and fellowship in a way that allows others to understand the truth and which benefits and edifies them, and which allows them to feel God’s love and salvation, so that they are able to make positive progress.
Relevant Words of God:
In “sharing and communing experiences,” sharing means speaking of every thought in your heart, your state, your experiences and knowledge of God’s words, as well as the corrupt disposition within you—and after that, others differentiate, and accept the positive and recognize that which is negative. Only this is sharing, and only this is truly communing. It does not simply mean having insights into the words of God or a part of a hymn, and communing as you please, and not saying anything related to your own actual life. Everyone talks about doctrinal and theoretical knowledge, and says nothing of knowledge drawn from actual experiences. They all avoid talking about such things, about their personal lives, about their life in the church with their brothers and sisters, and about their own inner world. In this way, how can there be true communication between people, how can there be real trust? There cannot! … If the brothers and sisters are to be able to confide in each other, help each other out, and provide for one another when they are together, then each person must speak of their own true experiences. … If people have no verbal or spiritual communication, there is no possibility of intimacy between them, and they can’t provide to each other or help one another. Do you have such a feeling? If your friend says everything to you, saying all of what they’re thinking in their heart, and what suffering or happiness they have in their heart, then do you not feel particularly intimate with them? That they are willing to tell these things to you is because you have also spoken of the words in your heart to them—you are especially close, and it is because of this that you are able to get along with them and help each other out. Without this among the brothers and sisters in the church, there would never be harmony among the brothers and sisters, which is one of the requisites of being honest. Some people say: “Aw, it’s hard being honest, do I have to tell everything I think in my heart to others? Isn’t it enough to commune the positive things—I won’t tell others of my dark or corrupt side, OK?” If you do not speak these things, and do not dissect yourself, then you will never know yourself, will never know what kind of thing you are, and there will be no chance of others trusting you. This is fact. If you wish for others to trust you, first you must be honest. To be honest, you must first lay your heart bare, so that everyone can see it, and all that you are thinking, and can see your true face; you must not pretend or package yourself. Only then will people trust you and consider you honest. This is the most fundamental practice of being honest, and it is a precondition. You are always pretending, always feigning holiness, virtuousness, greatness, and loftiness, and do not let people see your corruption and your failings. You present a false image to people, so that they believe you are upstanding, mighty, self-denying, impartial, and selfless. Don’t pretend, don’t package yourself; instead, lay yourself bare, lay your heart bare for others to see. If you can lay your heart bare for others to see, and lay bare all that you think and plan to do in your heart—regardless of whether it is positive or negative—then are you not being honest?
from “To Be Honest, You Should Lay Yourself Open to Others” in Records of Christ’s Talks
These relationships aren’t established on the flesh, but on the foundation of God’s love. There are almost no interactions based on the flesh, but in the spirit there is fellowship as well as love, comfort, and provision for one another. This is all done on the foundation of a heart that satisfies God. These relationships aren’t maintained by relying on a human philosophy of life, but they are formed very naturally through the burden for God. They don’t require human effort—they are practiced through the principles of the word of God.
from “Establishing a Proper Relationship With God Is Very Important” in The Word Appears in the Flesh
This “irrational” person God speaks of looks like they don’t have proper relationships with others, and they don’t have outward love or superficial practices, but when they are communicating spiritual things they can open their heart and selflessly provide others with the illumination and enlightenment they have acquired from their actual experience before God. This is how they express their love for God and satisfy God’s will.
from “Establishing a Proper Relationship With God Is Very Important” in The Word Appears in the Flesh
Behaving like a normal human being is to speak with coherence. Yes means yes, no means no. Be true to the facts and speak appropriately. Don’t cheat, don’t lie.
from “Improving Caliber Is for Receiving God’s Salvation” in The Word Appears in the Flesh
I very much appreciate those who harbor no suspicion about others and I also very much like those who readily accept the truth; to these two kinds of men I show great care, for in My eyes they are honest men. If you are very deceitful, then you will have a guarded heart and thoughts of suspicion regarding all matters and all men. For this reason, your faith in Me is built upon a foundation of suspicion. This manner of faith is one I shall never acknowledge.
from “How to Know the God on Earth” in The Word Appears in the Flesh
You must have an understanding of the people with whom you fellowship and fellowship about spiritual matters in life, only then can you supply life to others and make up for their inadequacies. You should not take a lecturing tone with them, which is fundamentally the wrong position to have. In fellowship you must have an understanding of spiritual matters. You must have wisdom and be able to understand what is in the hearts of other people. You must be a correct person if you are to serve others and you must fellowship with what you have.
from “The Thirteenth Utterance” in The Word Appears in the Flesh
Whether you have truly renounced the flesh, depends on whether you are prejudiced toward your brothers and sisters, and on whether, if you are, you can push such prejudices aside. Which is to say, when your relationship with your brothers and sisters is normal, then your conditions before God are also normal. When one of your brothers and sisters is weak, you will not loathe them, despise them, make fun of them, or give them the cold shoulder. If you are able to be of service to them, you will commune with them and say, “I used to be passive and weak. I really did not want to attend an assembly, but something happened through which God enlightened me inside and disciplined me; I was reproached inside, I was so ashamed, and I always felt sorry toward God. Afterward, I dedicated myself to the life of the church, and the more I engaged with my brothers and sisters, the more I felt I couldn’t do without God. When I was with them I didn’t feel lonely; when I was shut in a room by myself I felt lonely and friendless, I felt that my life was empty, and my thoughts turned to death. Now that I was with my brothers and sisters, Satan did not dare to do its work, and I did not feel lonely. When I saw how strong the love for God of my brothers and sisters was, I was inspired, and so I was always with my brothers and sisters, and my passive state naturally disappeared.” Hearing this, they feel that it is useless to pray at home, they still feel that there is no love between their brothers and sisters, that their life is empty, that they have no one to rely upon, and that it’s not enough to merely pray. If you commune with them this way, then they will have a path by which to practice.
from “The Work of the Holy Spirit and the Work of Satan” in The Word Appears in the Flesh
One day, when you’re abroad to spread the gospel and someone asks you: “How is your faith in God?” you will be able to say: “God’s actions are so marvelous!” As soon as they see you say this, they’ll feel that there’s something within you and that God’s actions truly are unfathomable. This is truly bearing witness. You will say that God’s work is full of wisdom, and His work in you has truly convinced you and conquered your heart. You will always love Him because He is more than worthy of mankind’s love! If you can speak to these things, you can move people’s hearts. All of this is bearing witness. If you are able to be a resounding witness, to move people to tears, that shows that you truly are one who loves God. That’s because you are able to act as a witness of love for God and God’s actions can be expressed through you. And through your expression, other people can seek out His actions, experience God, and they’ll be able to stand steady in whatever environment they find themselves in. Only bearing witness this way is genuinely bearing witness, and this is exactly what is required of you now.
from “Those Who Are to Be Made Perfect Must Undergo Refinement” in The Word Appears in the Flesh
The Man’s Fellowship:
Those who serve God must be able to connect heart to heart with their brothers and sisters. They must be able to become one with their brothers and sisters and not make any distinctions in terms of status. They must be able to live in harmony with their brothers and sisters. This is the kind of person that God’s chosen people endorse and support. If you are always aloof and remote or if you consider yourself better than everyone else, God’s chosen people will gradually distance themselves from you. They will not open their hearts to you. If you do not lay your heart bare to God’s chosen people and are unable to live in harmony with them based on a relationship of equality, how then would you be able to help God’s chosen people? How would you lead God’s chosen people? When God was incarnated, He is humble and hidden, and He never shows off Himself. When He is with people, He never tells them that He is God, and He does not associate with them or talk to them as God. He is like a common person. Nobody would feel that He is God, but the things He says are very beneficial and contributive to people.
from “The Things Those Who Serve God Must Have” in Sermons an Fellowship on Entry Into Life (III)
Do you all currently have the ability to speak some words within your heart when having a heart-to-heart share? Does a person who is good at sharing from the heart know what words can help the other person feel comfort and derive benefit? A person who has suffered much hardship, who has experienced many trials, who has been pruned and dealt with a lot, who has suffered many wrongs, who has been bullied a lot, and who has been entrapped a lot has the deepest personal realization in this area. Whenever these kinds of things happen, there is a need for the comfort of others, and a need to share from the heart with other people. The person who needs to share heart-to-heart is someone who knows what to say so that the other person is comforted. He knows how to say it in a way that the person feels better. This kind of person is someone who has experience of suffering hardship. What about those people who never have these heart-to-heart talks, and who have not learned how to speak with people? What problem is this? They do not have a feeling of conscience, and they have no humanity. They are the same as animals. The most fundamental expression of humanity is a feeling of conscience. In which aspects is the feeling of conscience made evident? In the ability to show good sense, and in the ability to have a heart-to-heart talk. It shows in the ability to comfort people, and in the ability to help people. He especially knows what the other person lacks. If he is a person who understands truth, he knows in particular what aspect of truth the other person needs to hear to receive benefit. Only truth can comfort people. Only truth can replenish the conscience and spirit of a person. The ability to speak only some words of comfort, without the supply of truth, is much less comfort. The ability to comfort people with truth, helping people know how to put truth into practice after they understand it, and know how to solve the problem, this is the greatest comfort, and is the greatest gain. The greatest gain from enduring hardship is the attainment of truth, and the ability to solve a problem at its source. For these reasons, a person who is most able to say words of comfort is also a person who can fellowship truth. He knows how to choose sections of God’s word to solve a person’s difficulty, and when he reads the words of God, the person may feel moved, and may shed tears. The person can then understand the will of God and can see God’s love. The type of person who can comfort people with the word of God is a person who has the most humanity. This sort of person is most capable of doing work.
